Harvest starts Thursday
You need forty more hands, and the office is an hour from most applicants.
Applications for pickers, sorters and equipment operators have been arriving all week. There are 210 of them, many from people who don't live near the farm and can't come in for an interview.
Your office manager has been calling down the list in between payroll and supply orders. Half the numbers go to voicemail. Two of the people who did pick up asked about housing, and nobody had the answer in front of them.
The crop doesn't care. It's ready Thursday, with or without a full crew.
